YONKERS, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence College women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season Wednesday, September 9, defeating the City College of New York (CCNY), 4-1, at Fleming Soccer Field.

The Gryphons improve to 2-0-1 on the season and have now won seven straight meetings against the Beavers, moving to 7-4 all-time against CCNY. The Beavers fall to 0-3-0.

Sarah Lawrence controlled play throughout the contest, holding a 20-3 advantage in shots and putting 12 attempts on target. The Gryphons also earned five corner kicks while limiting CCNY to none.

Sophomore Katherine Varghese opened the scoring in the 26th minute, finding the back of the net for the first time this season and the third time in her career. Sophomore Sadie Colvin earned the assist, her second of the season and third of her career.

The Gryphons quickly added to their advantage after halftime, as Colvin scored in the 47th minute to make it 2-0. The goal marked the first of her collegiate career.

Senior Chloe Barker pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 63rd minute with her third goal of the season and 23rd career tally.

Five minutes later, first-year Emily Barrientos capped the scoring for the Gryphons, netting her first collegiate goal in the 68th minute. Junior Nicaia Sharp picked up the assist, her third of the season and fourth of her career.

Sarah Lawrence generated consistent offensive pressure from the opening whistle. Emma Mangan recorded the Gryphons' first shot in the third minute, and the team continued to threaten before Varghese broke through in the 26th minute. Sarah Lawrence carried its 1-0 lead into halftime after outshooting CCNY, 9-1, in the opening 45 minutes.

The Gryphons continued to control possession in the second half, with five different players registering shots.

CCNY got on the board in the 85th minute when Yessenia Yascaribay scored to make it 4-1. The Beavers recorded one final shot in the closing minute, but sophomore Bella Vaca made her second save of the night to preserve the Gryphons' victory.

Sarah Lawrence returns to action Saturday, September 12, traveling to FDU-Florham for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
