BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Following a fantastic week that led to a pair of doubleheader sweeps, Sarah Lawrence College first-year Skyler Vallarta (Brea, Calif./Sonora) has been named Skyline Softball Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday. The rookie hit .444 (8-for-18) with one home run, five RBIs and three runs scored.

In the team's sweep of John Jay, Vallarta hit .800 with a pair of RBIs and one run scored. In the Gryphons' game one victory over the Bloodhounds, the rookie hit the team's first home run of the year.

Vallarta accounted for three RBIs and two runs scored in the squad's sweep at Purchase, helping the Gryphons to their first-ever wins over the Skyline foe.

The first-year has been impressive in her first season in a Gryphon uniform. Vallarta, who has reached base in eight straight games, has started 12 contests for Sarah Lawrence, and ranks second in batting average (.394), second in slugging percentage (.515), second in on-base percentage (.412), fifth in hits (13) and fifth in total bases (17).

Vallarta is the second Gryphon to earn Skyline softball weekly honors this season, and the third Gryphon to earn conference weekly recognition in team history. She is also the fourth Sarah Lawrence student-athlete to earn Skyline Rookie of the Week accolades in the 2017-18 year.

Sarah Lawrence is 10-8 overall this season, already matching its win total of 2017.

The Gryphons are set to begin a 10-game home stand Friday (Apr. 13), beginning with a doubleheader against New Rochelle at Mary Levine Field. Opening pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
