BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Following a pair of terrific pitching performances that led to Gryphons' victories, Sarah Lawrence junior
Mikayla Cunningham (Mayville, Mich./Millington) has been named Skyline Softball Pitcher of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.
Cunningham, a tri-captain, is the second Gryphon in program history to earn Skyline Pitcher of the Week accolades. It is also the second Skyline weekly honor received by the right-hander in her career.
It's the third time this season and the second consecutive week that a member of the Sarah Lawrence College softball team has earned Skyline weekly recognition, joining
Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and
Skyler Vallarta (Brea, Calif./Sonora).
Cunningham was fantastic in the circle, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched.
The junior went the distance against New Rochelle, snapping the squad's 10-game win streak with a five-hit shutout, her second complete game shutout of the year. Cunningham once again went the distance in a 9-1 victory over Yeshiva, limiting the Maccabees to two hits while fanning five. The lone run for Yeshiva was unearned.
Cunningham is 6-4 on the mound this season with a 2.25 ERA, third-lowest in the Skyline, with 27 strikeouts in 59.0 innings pitched.
The Gryphons are 13-9 overall this year, their most wins in a single season, including a 4-4 mark in Skyline play. Sarah Lawrence returns to the diamond Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Brooklyn College at Mary Levine Field. Game one is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
