BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Following a strong performance in Myrtle Beach, Sarah Lawrence College junior infielder
Taryn Penna (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) has been named Skyline Softball Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday. Penna was 13-for-22 (.591) with seven runs scored, two RBIs, 16 total bases and was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
Penna, a First Team Skyline All-Conference performer in 2017, posted four multi-hit outings in a six game-stretch, including a 3-for-4 performance in a 4-3 win over Lesley University, the defending NECC champions. The shortstop scored the game-tying run in the third inning while hitting the go-ahead RBI single in the fourth.
In the squad's 9-6 win over Albertus Magnus, winners of 30 games in 2017, Penna finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. The junior was the catalyst to the team's seven-run first inning rally with a leadoff double down the left field line. It was the Gryphons' first-ever victory over the Falcons.
Penna has now earned Skyline Player of the Week recognition twice in her career.
Sarah Lawrence posted an overall record of 4-4 on the team's annual Spring Break trip, the program's most wins during the outing.
