Mackrel Breaks Own School Record on Final Day of Skyline Championships

PURCHASE, N.Y. – After setting conference records in two events Friday, Naima Mackrel (Woodstock, N.Y./Kingston) added to her already impressive resume, breaking her own school record in the 100 yard butterfly while earning all-conference honors in two individual events, leading the women's swimming team to a third-place finish at the 2018 Skyline Championships at Purchase College.

ALL CONFERENCE RECOGNTION
Mackrel began the day with a runner-up finish in the 100 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 54.84, a season-best, to earn Skyline All-Conference accolades. The sophomore later placed second in the 100 yard butterfly, finishing in 1:00.18, beating her own program record of 1:01.67 set in 2016.

Mackrel has become one of the most decorated swimmers in Sarah Lawrence College history. The 2016 Rookie of the Year, she is a now a nine-time all-conference performer, including three gold medals.

In the 400 yard freestyle relay, a team of Mackrel, Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School), Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and Andrea Corbin (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) earned Skyline All-Conference honors, finishing second in 3:55.86.

PODIUM APPEARANCES
Peal and Lawson each reached the podium for an individual event in their final Skyline Championship meet. Peal finished third in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.24, while scoring in the 500 yard freestyle with a mark of 5:50.21.

Lawson earned the bronze in the 200 yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:34.39. Lawson also scored in the 200 yard IM, placing fifth in 2:26.19.

KEY GRYPHON PERFORMANCES
Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) scored in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:31.81, while Andrea Corbin (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) scored in two events, including the 200 yard breaststroke (2:52.52) and 200 yard IM (2:34.79). Caitie Adler (Pikesville, Md./Wilde Lake) scored in two races for the Sarah Lawrence, including the 200 yard IM (2:38.57) and 100 yard butterfly (1:12.89).

Sarah Lawrence returns to action Feb. 16-17, competing at the Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers Aquatic Center.
