Mackrel Sets Skyline Records on Day One of Skyline Championships

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence College sophomore Naima Mackrel (Woodstock, N.Y./Kingston) broke Skyline records in two events Friday on the opening day of the 2018 Skyline Swimming Championships at Purchase College.

MACKREL VICTORIOUS
Mackrel defended her crown in the 100 yard backstroke. Entering with a seed time of 59.26, the sophomore topped her mark with a time of 57.88, a new Skyline record. Mackrel later set the conference record in the 50 yard freestyle, winning the race in 24.90.

GRYPHON RELAYS
In the 200 yard medley relay, a team comprised of Mackrel, Hannah Lawson (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School), Devon Peal (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and Andrea Corbin (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) earned Second Team All-Conference honors, finishing as the runner-up with a time of 1:55.70.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMANCES
Peal scored for the Gryphons in the 1,000 yard freestyle, finishing sixth with a time of 12:00.33. The junior also scored in the 100 yard backstroke, taking fourth with a mark of 1:03.25. Elizabeth Kroll (Sacramento, Calif./The Met Sacramento) and Leah Myrtil (Boston, Mass./Elizabeth Seton Academy) also scored in the race, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively.

Lawson scored in two events, placing sixth in the 200 yard freestyle (2:08.63) and sixth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:14.23). Corbin also added to the Gryphons' point-total in the 100 backstroke, finishing ninth in 1:17.62.

Caitie Adler (Pikesville, Md./Wilde Lake) scored in the 200 yard butterfly, taking eighth with a time of 2:57.54.
