Three Gryphons Named to All-HVWAC Volleyball Team

NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball players Molly Busk (Corbett, Ore., Corbett), Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif., Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) and Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's) have been recognized by the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) as all-conference players, as announced by the league on Monday.

The announcement follows the Gryphons' success in winning the 2012 HVWAC Championship on Sunday, the team's first tournament title since 1998.

Busk, a first-year libero, was a defensive standout for Sarah Lawrence, racking up a team-high 278 digs and ranking third in the league in the category. Busk also played backup to senior setter Brooklynn Moore (Oakland, Calif., Santa Catalina), notching 58 assists on the season. She was twice named HVWAC Rookie of the Week and was also named to the All-Tournament team at the NYU Poly Jay Street Challenge. Busk also notched the team's five-highest dig totals of the season, topped by 23 digs against City College of N.Y.

After a quiet start to the season, O'Sullivan emerged as an offensive powerhouse in the second half of the year. The sophomore outside hitter posted double-digit kills in nine of the team's final 13 matches, and she totaled 246 kills on the season. O'Sullivan had three double-double performances on the season, and tallied the team's most kills of the year with 17 against College of New Rochelle in the HVWAC semifinal. She also led the Gryphons with 22 blocks and was an HVWAC Player of the Week and two-time Honor Roll selection. O'Sullivan was named HVWAC Championship Tournament MVP after notching 39 kills and 15 digs in the postseason.

Spanbroek was a constant force for Sarah Lawrence, both offensively and defensively. The first-year outside hitter led the HVWAC in kills (255) and service aces (87) this season.  Spanbroek's two double-doubles came at the most opportune time, as she posted 10 kills with 16 digs in the league semifinal and 12 kills with 13 digs in the HVWAC title match. Spanbroek captured HVWAC Player of the Week honors and was twice named to the league's weekly honor roll. She also set a Sarah Lawrence hitting-percentage (.565) record with 13 kills and 0 errors on 23 attempts against Maritime.
