Landes, O'Sullivan Named HVWAC Players of the Week

NEW YORK—Sarah Lawrence College tennis player Nora Landes (Los Angeles, Calif., Cleveland/Humanities Magnet) and volleyball player Kitty O'Sullivan (Los Angeles, Calif., Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy) have been recognized as Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Players of the Week in their respective sports for the period ending October 22, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Landes captured her second HVWAC Tennis Player of the Week honors of the season after posting a 4-0 record in matches against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn and Yeshiva University.

The first-year player began the week by shutting out her opponents from St. Joseph's, winning her singles match 10-0 before teaming with senior Maddy Dessanti (Teaneck, N.J., Teaneck) to win the No. 1 doubles match, 8-0. For the year, Landes improved her ledger to 3-1 against conference opponents in both singles and doubles action.

On Sunday, Landes added an 8-4 doubles win against Yeshiva and wrapped up her week with a three-set victory against Yeshiva's top singles player.

O'Sullivan becomes the season's second Gryphon to capture HVWAC Volleyball Player of the Week recognition, following first-year player Zoë Spanbroek (Boca Raton, Fla., Saint Andrew's). In five matches, O'Sullivan led Sarah Lawrence with 53 kills and her 14 aces were the squad's second most during a 4-1 week for the Gryphons.

The sophomore recorded four matches with double-digit kills and put down a team-high 13 kills against Maritime College. O'Sullivan has moved her into second place in the HVWAC leaderboard in kills per set and total kills. She also leads the conference with 3.2 kills and 4.1 points per set against league opponents.

In addition, rookie women's tennis player Lane Garber (Los Altos, Calif., Los Altos) was named to this week's HVWAC Honor Roll. Garber's 4-0 week began with a singles and doubles win over HVWAC opponent St. Joseph's. In league matches, she is now 3-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles play. Garber rounded out the week by picking up another pair of wins against Yeshiva, helping the Gryphons to a 6-3 win over the Maccabees.

Sarah Lawrence women's tennis concludes its season on Saturday at the HVWAC Tennis Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Women's volleyball hosts a pair of home matches this week, beginning with a match against Yeshiva on Tuesday at 8 p.m. and continuing with a showdown against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Thursday at 7 p.m.
